Right now, my brain is totally confused… It’s nearly the end of November (Movember too, apparently), the internet is brimming with recipes for pumpkin spice everything; there’s some very serious polar vortex action going on in the world… but there’s been no sign of winter in Mumbai! And, seriously, what’s with all the shops stocking up on winter wear? You definitely need cozy cardigans if you’re stepping out of the city, but are that many people travelling in order for shops to be choc-a-block with jackets and woollies? I’m not sure! But for the last couple of days, I’ve noticed a slight cool breeze in the mornings and A/C’s are completely dispensable at night! As it turns out, winter is coming (Game of Thrones fans, I don’t mean that in a foreboding manner)! So while the gajar ka halwa and soups can wait for a bit, I’m going to savour these pleasant mornings with a steaming hot cup of Nutella Hot Chocolate and pretend, just like the shops around me, like it’s going to get very cold here.
What is completely unpretentious though, is how insanely easy this Nutella Hot Chocolate is to make – it takes just 3 ingredients to make and can be made with any sort of milk. So if you have whole milk – go for it; soy milk – it’ll pair well with the ingredients in this hot chocolate; almond milk- is by far my favourite and is what I’ve used here; skimmed milk – oh hello, I’m nobody to judge you for wanting to save a few calories! But, hold on, if you’re thinking of coconut milk… I’m not really sure how that would taste here. I prefer using coconut milk for drinks where I’m adding some spices like cinnamon or nutmeg, I feel like it truly enhances the flavour and aromas of the spices, and it might just be a bit of a let-down with the heaped tablespoon of Nutella in this recipe… yes, heaped.
I’m a huge fan of using almond milk to make hot chocolate, and here, it enhances the nutty hazelnut flavour of the Nutella ever-so-slightly. Almond milk isn’t the easiest thing to find in stores in India, but I always rely on this recipe to make it at home. This Nutella Hot Chocolate completely relies on the sweetness of the Nutella without any sweetener added to it, but you’re free to tinker with that. Does a 3-ingredient recipe warrant chatter that’s 3 paragraphs long? Absolutely, I love catching up with you! But for now, let’s just slurp down some Nutella Hot Chocolate, shall we? If Nutella isn’t agreeable with you, may I suggest you try this recipe for Cinnamon Spiced Hot Chocolate? It’s my Dad’s favourite!
